SEPT-ÎLES, May 4, 2021 – Today, Claude Gosselin, President and CEO of Aluminerie Alouette, met with Mike McKenzie, Chief of the Uashat mak Mani-utenam and honorary president of the first campaign of the Comptoir alimentaire Nishk, to confirm a partnership that will support the organization and its recipients with $120,000 in funding.
To symbolize this gesture of financial support, Aluminerie Alouette presented an aluminium Canada goose to the Comptoir alimentaire Nishk. “By contributing to this important project that aims to ensure access to essential food items, we are really hoping to make a difference in the everyday lives of those in need,” Gosselin stated. In the same way that geese rely on one another when in flight, community members can count on Aluminerie Alouette, which in turn has counted on its employees and loyal business partners for nearly 30 years.
Comptoir alimentaire Nishk is seeking funds so that it can wholly fulfill its mission. By donating $40,000 annually over the next three years, the Sept-Îles aluminium smelter is helping this new organization take off. “Solidarity and mutual support are fundamental values that we share with Aluminerie Alouette. With the pandemic currently causing major social and economic upheavals in our community, the Comptoir alimentaire Nishk plays a key role in supporting those in need. The involvement and financial contribution of financial partners such as Aluminerie Alouette are essential and make a real difference for the beneficiaries in our community. I would like to thank the company and its president and CEO, Claude Gosselin, for this significant gesture of solidarity,” McKenzie stated. Additionally, Alouette is calling on all partners of the Innu community to join their efforts and support this campaign, which is especially important in the context of the pandemic.
In good and difficult times alike, Aluminerie Alouette plays a major role in the community by contributing to various causes related to community, culture, education, health, sustainable development, socioeconomics and sports and recreation. It supports a number of initiatives in the Uashat mak Mani-utenam community, including a program that provides snacks to elementary school students.
