For Alouette and its employees, our natural heritage is a priority and the environment is a responsibility shared by all. An Alouette team monitors the environment and ensures compliance with government standards. Its members contribute to environmental knowledge and develop innovative techniques and practices.
Did you know that prior to the construction of the two phases of Aluminerie Alouette, exhaustive impact studies covering numerous environmental, societal, cultural and human rights aspects were carried out? These studies showed that all federal and provincial legislative requirements were met. Aluminerie Alouette's current practices are still applied with the same rigour.
In addition, the environmental certificate issued to Aluminerie Alouette by the Ministère de l'Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs is in line with the regulations and includes all the requirements to be met. More specifically, these requirements concern all the standards currently in force for aluminium smelters (these stem from the Environment Quality Act and its various regulations).
What's more, since environmental certifications are part of a continuous improvement process, additional standards and monitoring are also included in Aluminerie Alouette's certification. In this way, the company is contributing to a broader characterisation of the environment.
The environmental management policy is available in the company policy directory.
A green team
The people at our Environment Department care about the world around us. Climbing up chimneys to take air samples, collecting and examining vegetation samples and analysing specimens are all integral parts of our environmental monitoring program. Air, water, soil, wildlife and vegetation are scrutinized and covered in a comprehensive annual report submitted to the Quebec Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and the Fight against Climate Change.
